One thing I have learned from our public temporary layouts. Don't over think it. We (I) have a tendency to get caught up in scales, periods in time, and specific roads. These kids didn't care. All they cared about was seeing lots of trains pulling lots of cars with lots of smoke and lots of lights. At one point, I had a NS Diesel pulling some early PRR Madison's. We also mixed in HO stuff, as well as ceramic Christmas buildings from Wal-Mart sitting right next to our AmeriTowne buildings. I actually illuminated some buildings with a 7 watt nightlight bulb. I put Luigi (from Mario Brothers) on the platform, and the post office had a band of California Raisins inside it. No one said a word. They loved it. The adults were singing the California Raisins song under their breath pausing only to ask their grand kids who the guy in green over alls was standing on the platform. Don't over think it- just do it.
