Here is a sample structure created using a laser cutter for cutting out some of the parts. Russ

Russ I imagine you probably have a nice library of CAD files for various shapes, objects. Have you considered making them available for sale?

John, I really don't want to be in business. I think a more exciting idea would be to create a site much like what you have done here, exciting o scale items, that is a place for ALL of us to share digital files for making model railroad items. Part of the problem is that the state of the art of ALL of these machines today is very much like the early days of pc's. All the companies have thier own file formats. There are some exceptions like the stl file format. However to EDIT these types of files is currently difficult at best. Most require some type of CAD software in order to alter an already existing file. I think we are a year or two away from some nice easy to use piece of software that will give us the tool we are all looking for. Take a look at Thingiverse as an example of a site like what I am talking about. Imagine that site if it was just train stuff. Russ

Very interesting. Yes, I could see a whole series of categories of train-related objects that people submit for hosting here, that others could download and use. And since it's generally pretty easy to scale CAD designs, once a project has been drawn up, it could be easily scaled to HO, N, G, S, whatever.

Hmmmm...
